The Strokes are an American alternative rock band formed in New York City in 1999. The group consists of vocalist Julian Casablancas, lead guitarist Nick Valensi, rhythm guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. In January 2001, The Strokes released the demo EP The Modern Age on independent record label Rough Trade. The band later signed with RCA Records and released their debut LP Is This It the following August. Helped by singles “Hard to Explain” and “Last Night” the album debuted at No. 2 in the U.K. and No. 33 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album sold more than two million copies worldwide and was certified platinum in the U.K.
The group released their next LP, Room on Fire in 2003 and then the album First Impressions of Earthin 2006. The record entered the U.K. Albums chart at No. 1 and was The Strokes’ first album to take the top spot. In the U.S. it reached No. 4. The group’s fourth studio album, Angles was released in 2011 and reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 3 in the U.K. Two years later, the first single from the band’s fifth album premiered on the radio. Named “All the Time,” the single was described as a return to the classic Strokes sound from the first albums. The full album, titled Comedown Machine, was released in March 2013.
