Spiegelworld and The Gazillionaire will open his new production of the long-running hit show Absinthe at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
“I was just getting ready to pack up my tent and move to Miami,” said Absinthe’s producer, The Gazillionaire. “But last night I was offered a deal I couldn’t pass up.”
In collaboration with The Cosmopolitan, Spiegelworld will take over and re-imagine the former ballroom space in Rose. Rabbit. Lie., creating a distinct, all new venue for Absinthe. Rose. Rabbit. Lie. will continue to operate as a modern supper club offering dining and live entertainment.
The move serves as the next chapter in the ongoing success story that is Absinthe. Spiegelworld first presented the show in 2006 in a spiegeltent at the South Street Seaport, New York City. Absinthe went on to open in Las Vegas in 2011, where it was voted “Best New Show” and hailed as the most outrageous and original offering on The Strip in years. The show has continued to evolve while entertaining over one million Las Vegas visitors during the past five years and will now arrive re-energized at The Cosmopolitan by the end of 2016.
“I knew nothing about this deal until The Gazillionaire told me this morning,” remarked Ross Mollison, Spiegelworld impresario extraordinaire. “We have had the best five years of our lives here in Las Vegas. We could not be more excited to now be working with Bill McBeath and his team, playing in the most compelling new resort to open in Las Vegas in the last decade.”
“Absinthe is a truly unique experience and we look forward to collaborating with Spiegelworld on its new home here at The Cosmopolitan next door to Rose. Rabbit. Lie.,” remarked Bill McBeath, president and chief executive officer of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Absinthe will play its final performance at its current location on Friday, Oct. 21, and will commence previews at The Cosmopolitan late 2016.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Spiegelworld is the collective of mayhem creators behind hit shows including Absinthe, La Vie, Desir and The Gazillionaire’s Late Nite Lounge which from 2006 became a summer institution under the spiegeltent at the end of the pier by Brooklyn Bridge, New York City. Absinthe went on to tour to Miami and Australia before opening its long-running Las Vegas residency in 2011. The following year Spiegelworld found a new location in New York City, premiering Empire on an empty building site on Times Square. Empire has recently embarked on a hugely successful world tour including Australia, New Zealand Japan, Canada and the United States. Spiegelworld is currently developing new productions of Vegas Nocturne and Never Sleep Alone. Learn more about Spiegelworld on their website.
